Which Vaccinations Are Required for Hajj & Umrah?

The certificate must:
- Be issued no more than 3 years before travel

What Is Meningitis?
Meningitis is a serious infection affecting the protective membranes (meninges) surrounding the brain and spinal cord. If not treated quickly, it can lead to severe complications including nerve damage, brain injury, or life-threatening blood poisoning (sepsis).
During the 2000/2001 Hajj season, a significant meningitis outbreak occurred. Since 2002, the Meningitis ACWY vaccine has been mandatory for all Hajj and Umrah pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.
Signs and Symptoms of Meningococcal Disease
If you’re travelling to areas where meningococcal disease is more common, it’s important to recognise the signs and symptoms early, as the illness can develop quickly. Common symptoms may include:

| Severe headache |
| Blotchy rash that doesn’t fade when pressed (note: this may be harder to see on darker skin) |
| Sensitivity to bright light |
| Drowsiness or difficulty staying awake |
