An independent, family-run community pharmacy serving Central Reading
Our story doesn’t begin with a business plan – It begins with a brothers’ belief in his sibling. In 1985 Mr Saood gifted the pharmacy and offered a chance for a young pharmacist to plant roots and serve. What followed was a 40-year partnership with the community.
For four decades my father hasn’t just dispensed medicines. He has been a constant friendly face on Oxford Road. He’s remembered names, asked after grandchildren and supported recoveries. He became a cornerstone of the neighbourhood.
As his daughter, my own earliest memories are tied to this trust. As a little girl I have many memories riding an old Honda to make deliveries for life-saving medications. We’d visit sick and vulnerable patients and in those moments, it became ingrained into my consciousness how important our pharmacy was in showing up for people in their time of need. That lesson shaped me.
Today with 53 years of experience collectively, we now stand as a father-daughter duo serving the community of Reading through all of its growth and change.
We stand firm in the belief that health isn’t just about a single pill or quick transaction – it’s a conversation and an opportunity to listen to understand the whole picture. We pride ourselves on a holistic approach to be a true partner in your health journey. We see it as our family’s duty and our privilege to add this value to the community. After earning my Masters in Pharmacy in 2013, my foundation was built during a demanding training year in a large chain. While it taught me adaptability, it also underscored a crucial lesson: for me, pharmacy MUST remain patient-centred. I
soon progressed into management, running my own stores, but ultimately stepped away when the role conflicted with these core values.
That decision led to an unexpected personal journey abroad – from running corporate events, to providing interviews for tech startup on live radio and even working on film sets abroad! These diverse experiences have refined my perspective on what drives me.
Now, back within my family’s pharmacy, I serve as the operational lead, or ‘sub-captain’ where my commitment is to steer this business with both professional diligence and the personal touch that first called me to this profession.

My father’s career in pharmacy began with his graduation from Southampton University in 19XX, an experience that gifted him not just a degree, but a lifelong cohort of friends and colleagues. In the summer of 1985, he opened the doors to Saood Pharmacy, beginning a steadfast commitment that has defined the last four decades.
For 40 years, his reliable presence from nine until seven has been a constant for our community. This dedication has built a profoundly loyal customer base, often serving multiple generations of the same families, rooted in his unwavering belief that genuine care is the heart of this profession. Having navigated immense change within the field, his perspective is shaped by both enduring values and hard-earned wisdom, making him not just a pharmacist, but a trusted pillar of the
neighbourhood he has faithfully served.

For the past 16 years Monica has been the reliable heart of the dispensary. As an experienced dispenser, she is here every day ensuring your prescriptions are processed accurately and ready as efficiently as possible. You may often hear her friendly voice on the phone, coordinating collections and liaising closely with local surgeries to ensure seamless care.
A familiar and friendly face in our pharmacy, Monica’s dedication and expertise are a cornerstone of the service we provide and we are grateful to have her as part of our team.

What services do you offer?
Repeat dispensing, NHS and private prescriptions, contraception, pharmacy first, supervised consumption, NMS, Flu, Covid, Travel vaccinations including Hajj and Ummrah and unwanted medicine disposal.

Can I order my repeat prescriptions online?

Where can I park?
Free 2 hour parking is available on neighbouring roads opposite the
pharmacy. Paid on-street parking is available directly in front of the pharmacy as well as Chatham Street car park which is located directly behind us.
What are your opening hours?
We are open from 9am to 7pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with an hours’ closing for lunch from 1-2pm. Thursdays we are open half a day (9am-1pm).
Do you offer delivery?
We do not currently have a delivery service, however we have faithfully
served the most in need with deliveries by foot in our own time. Please call the pharmacy if you live locally and we will try our utmost to accommodate you.
